Welcome to first grade!
This will be one of the most incredible years your child will have in their school career! During this school year, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more! It's my goal to make their year a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime!
Because so many new changes occur, especially during the first few months of school, children, as well as parents many have some apprehension about what will happen. It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always be a priority.

Who I am |
I have been a member of the Lincoln team for 30 years. My experience includes 8 years teaching Junior Primary (a developmental program for kids who needed more time before entering the rigors of First Grade), and for the past 22 years teaching First Grade here at Lincoln. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University, a Master's Degree, and am certified in both regular ed and special education. I am a Petoskey native, and love Northern Michigan! I am married and have two grown children. I enjoy the great outdoors, the arts, and enjoy trying to improve my golf game (not such an easy task!) I look forward to getting to know all of you and am excited to be working with your children this year! I want to keep all lines of communication open as we work together to give your child the best of everything. Please feel free to contact me any time with questions and/or concerns. Thank you.

Expectations |
The best way to help your child have a productive, and positive First Grade experience is to work together. I ask that kids arrive at school on time, have eaten a good breakfast, and are well rested. The first few weeks and months can be a "tough" transition time for kids and this will help them with routines and classroom expectations. It is normal for them to be tired, cry, and have separation anxiety at the beginning of the school year. Please trust me when I say this will pass and not to worry! Your children are in good hands and these feelings are a normal part of development. Thank you for working with me to help them have the best possible first grade experience!
